We couldn’t let this week slip by without sharing one of our favourite ways to celebrate the season—spring planters that aren’t just for outdoors.
Here in Ontario, it’s still a little chilly, which makes bringing spring inside all the more meaningful. One of my go-to combinations right now is a soft, layered palette of crocus, hyacinth, and African violets, finished with natural mosses and sculptural branches.
There’s something so calming about this purple-on-purple harmony. The mix of periwinkle and deeper violet tones creates a beautiful, grounded centrepiece—perfect for a kitchen island, dining table, or even a coffee table. It adds life to the space in a way that feels both fresh and intentional.
For this design, we used a 15” clay base and planted:
– Two 4” crocus
– One 6” hyacinth
– Three African violets in a periwinkle purple
Everything is nestled into fresh potting soil, with mosses and quail eggs softening the surface and branches adding a bit of height and movement.
What I love most about this planter is how it evolves. The bulbs will continue to grow and bloom indoors for up to a month, depending on how warm your home is. And once you’ve enjoyed them inside, they can be planted out or potted up individually to enjoy again—nothing goes to waste.
It’s a simple design, but one that brings a quiet sense of spring into your home before the garden is ready.
Happy spring—and happy planting. 🌱
